Assistant Allegedly Passed on Information About Negotiations and Meetings

Police Conduct Searches of European Parliament Offices in Brussels

A German member of the European Parliament (MEP) has dismissed his assistant after the man was arrested on suspicion of spying for China. The assistant, identified as Jian G., 43, was named by German media as an assistant to AfD MEP Maximilian Krah.

Krah said that he accompanied G. on a trip to China shortly before the arrest. He said that he believes G. was working for the Chinese government and that he had been passing on information about negotiations and meetings.

Prosecutors allege that G. repeatedly passed on information about negotiations and meetings. Police conducted a search of the European Parliament offices in Brussels used by Alternative for Germany (AfD), the party to which Krah belongs.

Law enforcement also conducted searches in the Brussels offices of Maximilian Krah on Tuesday morning. Krah's assistant, Jian Guo, was arrested last month in Germany after being accused of serving as an agent for the Chinese government.
